Green Plants
We rely on green plants for our food and oxygen, without them we wouldn't be alive!
Plants are the only living things that can convert sunlight energy into food glucose for energy and then into other materials needed for growth. The waste product of this reaction is oxygen which we breathe in for use in respiration.

Can you live on air and water? Green plants can. They need light too - and some warmth. The leaves are the factories that produce the material the plants need to grow and flower.
Without green plants, there would be no life on Earth. Plants make the oxygen you breathe.

http://www.standards.dfes.gov.uk/schemes2/science/sci3b/?view=get
In this unit children learn about what plants need to grow well and why it is important that they do.
Experimental and investigative work focuses on:
-considering what evidence should be collected
-making careful measurements
-considering how good the evidence is
-using results to draw conclusions.
Work in this unit also offers opportunities for children to relate their knowledge about the growth of plants to everyday contexts.
This unit takes approximately 12 hours.
