BookGlutton
http://bookglutton.com/
BookGlutton
We set out to create a better way to read on-line; our goal was to make something different, engaging, intelligent and digital.
Our intent: build an experience that is simultaneously a book group, a computer, and a book.
We believe firmly that people want to read, annotate and discuss, right there, immersed in the text. That’s the best time to talk about a book. We also respect the solitary side to reading: people should have the chance to tune out the community.
We wanted it to be attractive, too; to be an experience. It was designed for the laptops people carry to their coffee shops, and meant for the network, not the desktop. Finally, it had to be something we’d want to use.

Letters that have pictures in them

Learn to read using letters that have pictures in them. Each word and letter has been hand drawn, originally made to help a student who was having trouble learning his letters. The method seemed to work very well.
The drawings were languishing in a drawer, but now I'm making them into an audio book, using short podcasts to accompany the words.

Readability Test
Gunning Fog, Flesch Reading Ease, and Flesch-Kincaid are reading level algorithms that can be helpful in determining how readable your content is. Reading level algorithms only provide a rough guide, as they tend to reward short sentences made up of short words. Whilst they're rough guides, they can give a useful indication as to whether you've pitched your content at the right level for your intended audience.

Leveled Book Lists
http://home.comcast.net/~ngiansante/
Leveled Book Lists
These lists have been developed for two reasons:
- for parents who have requested help in finding books at their child's reading level.
- for teachers who have requested a leveled book list or have asked for help in their effort to build a leveled library in their classrooms.
These lists are in alphabetical order by the authors' names and include two or three different sets of levels within each grade. Please remember that children learn at different rates for many different reasons. These lists are given as a way to choose books that will be at a child's level of development.
