Leveled Book Lists
http://home.comcast.net/~ngiansante/
Leveled Book Lists
These lists have been developed for two reasons:
- for parents who have requested help in finding books at their child's reading level.
- for teachers who have requested a leveled book list or have asked for help in their effort to build a leveled library in their classrooms.
These lists are in alphabetical order by the authors' names and include two or three different sets of levels within each grade. Please remember that children learn at different rates for many different reasons. These lists are given as a way to choose books that will be at a child's level of development.

Whichbook
http://www.whichbook.net/
Whichbook.net gives readers an enjoyable and intuitive way to find books to match their mood.
Instead of starting from the overwhelming choice of books available, whichbook.net starts from the reader, and enables each individual to build the elements of that elusive 'good read' we are all looking for but don't quite know how to define.
The standard way of organising books for choice, on shelves in a library or a bookshop, or on the web, starts from the products available - the authors, titles, publishers or genres. Using innovative software from Applied Psychology Research Ltd, whichbook.net enables, for the first time, the choice of book to start from the individual reader and what he/she is looking for.

Toe by Toe - Keda Publications
Welcome to Keda Publications I have dedicated 35 years of my life, developing methods to teach people with reading difficulties how to read. During years of unpaid scientific research in the 1970's, I created a teaching system that provides a progressive solution to reading problems. I called this system Toe By Toe, as the learning stages are too fine to be called 'step by step'. Since it's publication in 1994, the Toe By Toe reading manual has taught over one hundred thousand children and adults how to overcome their reading difficulties.

Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS)
http://nces.ed.gov/surveys/pirls/
The Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS) is a large international comparative study of the reading literacy of young students. Reading literacy is one of the most important abilities students acquire as they progress through their early school years. It is the foundation for learning across all subjects, it can be used for recreation and for personal growth, and it equips young children with the ability to participate fully in their communities and the larger society.
The PIRLS study focuses on the achievement and reading experiences of children in 35 countries in grades equivalent to fourth grade in the United States. The study includes a written test of reading comprehension and a series of questionnaires focusing on the factors associated with the development of reading literacy.

We can plan lessons using this public knowledge base to ease children into reading and spelling with the alphabetic code. Soon they will be reading independently with understanding and enjoyment.
