Myanmar Teachers and Students' Participation in Learning Circles

Background

One of the activities in the UNESCO SchoolNet project "Strengthening ICT Use in Schools and SchoolNet Project in ASEAN Setting " is Telecollaboration activities which involve ICT integration into the teaching and learning process.

Objectives

Participating in a Learning Circle can be a very rewarding experience for both students and teachers.

  • provide teachers a way of team-teach with many different teachers in a virtual classroom.
  • enable teachers to develop a very strong sense of the field of teaching by developing working relationships with ASEAN SchoolNet teachers
  • give students a wider perspective on issues and a greater understanding of similarities and differences by working in a collaborative setting with peers from ASEAN countries.

Participants

The participants are teachers and students from the pilot schools in Cambodia , Indonesia , Lao PDR, Malaysia , Myanmar , Philippines , Thailand and Vietnam .

The Bridges of Learning Circles

Learning Circle is an inter-classroom collaboration to create a circle publication on a specific project related to the curriculum. It could be group investigations within classroom or across classrooms. Each class carries out its own separate investigation. At a pre-determined stage, each class sends out a question or survey to the other classes in the Learning Circle . The other classes all respond as soon as possible. The data collected will help each class with its own investigation. Finally each class is able to share its findings from its investigation with the rest of the Learning Circle and more widely.

To participate in the Bridges of Learning Circle project, teachers and students of pilot schools participating in the ASEAN SchoolNet project have to indicate their commitment to the project consultant by e-mail. The project consultant will place them in a Learning Circle and keep them inform about every step of the process.
