There
is a disparity in the use of ICT among ASEAN countries as
well as within each country.
In narrowing the disparity among
ASEAN countries the Strengthening ICT in schools and SchoolNet
Project in ASEAN Setting was initiated as a collaborative
project between UNESCO Asia and Pacific Regional Bureau for
education, Bangkok the ASEAN foundation and SEAMEO, funded
by the Japanese Funds-in-Trust and the ASEAN Foundation.
The South-east Asian countries are divided into two groups:
Group(1) includes Thailand, Philippine, Malaysia and Indonesia.
Group(2) includes Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Vietnam.
Brunei participates on their own while Singapore is sharing
their expertise as a resource country. According to the project 3 schools from each country are
chosen as the beginning of pilot schools. The three pilot
schools in Myanmar are - (1) Basic Education High School No.1
Kyauktan (2) Basic Education High School No.2 Dagon and (3) Basic
Education High School No.3 Bago.
Students and teachers from pilot schools will have cognitive
opportunities of the systematic integration of ICT based materials
into Science, Mathematics and Language activities for telecollaboration.
In this way, the project can bridge the gap of Digital Divide
in Education within and among ASEAN countries.
Under the guidance of the ICT Technical Team, Science, Mathematics
and Language teachers from three pilot schools in Myanmar
have developed 45 ICT-based lessons.
Students and teachers from pilot schools are now participating
in learning circles of telecollaboration activities to share
resources from Internet such as (1) peopleandplaces1googlegroups.com,
(2) measure1@googlegroups.com and (3) world1@googlegroups.com by using e-mails. |
