Governor's Guide to Sustainable Schools UK June07
Governor's Guide to Sustainable Schools and Toolkit
The DfES have developed a series of tools to help governors think creatively to build a sustainable future for their schools. Firstly, a booklet: 'Strategic, challenging and accountable: A governorís guide to Sustainable Schools' sets out the principles for school leaders in creating the right backdrop for sustainable schools.
In addition, there is a presentation with notes designed for governors to use as a starting point in their meetings (taking about 30 minutes) and a 2 hours workshop with notes and handouts designed for experienced facilitators to use with governors and school leaders.

Best practice in self-evaluation
Best practice in self-evaluation: A survey of (UK)schools, colleges and local authorities
This report looks at the factors which contribute to effective self-evaluation. It is based on visits to 12 schools, seven further education colleges and three local authorities where previous inspection reports identified strong practice in this area.
The findings are intended to disseminate best practice and to provide help to institutions improve this aspect of their work. The report complements Improving performance through school self-evaluation and improvement planning, published jointly by the DfES and Ofsted in June 2006.
This report will be of particular interest to schools, further education and sixth form colleges, and to local authorities and national bodies.

Active Learning Practices for Schools ALPS
ALPS, or Active Learning Practices for Schools, is a site dedicated to the improvement of education. The site is organized into seven distinct sections: backpack, look, reflect, explore, build, connect, and learn. ALPS is produced the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Some areas of the site require registration.
ALPS, Active Learning Practice for Schools, is an electronic community dedicated to the improvement and advancement of educational instruction and practice. Our mission is to create an on-line collaborative environment between teachers and administrators from around the world with educational researchers, professors, and curriculum designers at Harvard's Graduate School of Education and Project Zero.
The ALPS site is as wide as it is deep. Each of the three regions within the ALPS site has it own resources for cultivating active learning practice in schools. But rest assured the ALPS site is unified in its educational philosophy and vision: that students must be active, engaged, and thoughtful participants in their own education. Each region offers a wealth of pedagogical terrain to explore.
