A SARS Proof Education Medium
http://www.purpletrain.com/news/20030502_01.htm
In SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) hit countries across Asia, daily activities, normally taken for granted, have been rudely disrupted. Many hospitals, schools, offices, factories and entertainment outlets have been temporarily shut down or quarantined in the fight to contain the spread of SARS.
The threat of disruption to their education and examination schedules is very real for students in SARS hit countries. Already a number of schools and universities have been temporarily shut down. However, one group of students can confidently carry on with their studies, course projects and exams without even the slightest threat of disruption by SARS. They are the students of Purple Train.
PurpleTrain.com is the e-learning service provider which offers a one-stop service for business and IT education programs, corporate training courses and education-related services.

Virus pushes schools to go virtual in Hong Kong - Threat of SARS forces teachers to conduct classes online
Alex Fung, head of Hong Kong Baptist's education studies department, accelerated work he and a team of educators had already started in creating an online learning platform called the Virtual Integrated Teaching and Learning Environment, or VITLE.
The government suspended elementary, high school and college classes in Hong Kong's 1,300 schools on March 29, as fears of the SARS epidemic spread. Some schools are scheduled to remain closed for at least another week.
Consequently, Hong Kong Education City Limited, a government-funded entity that was already providing Web-based classes, began offering free use of its virtual classrooms, which use First Virtual's Web conferencing program, Click to Meet Express.

Australian Department of Foreign Affairs - SARS Advice
http://www.dfat.gov.au/zw-cgi/view/TravelBulletins/Severe_Acute_Respiratory_Syndrome
Australian Department of Foreign Affairs - SARS Advice to travellers
Persons arriving in Australia with symptoms suggestive of SARS will be referred by airline and border authorities to be examined by health authorities. If the diagnosis of SARS cannot be excluded at the port of entry, the symptomatic person will be referred for specialist diagnosis and treatment, and precautions taken to prevent the possible spread of infection to others.
In view of these circumstances the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing strongly recommends that Australians consider deferring, until further notice, non-essential travel to China (particularly Guangdong province) Hong Kong SAR, Singapore, Vietnam and Canada (Toronto). Australians resident in countries where local transmission of SARS has been reported, and who have chronic illnesses, should seek medical advice about any need for extra precautions.
