Teacher librarians could soon be left on the funding shelf
http://bit.ly/TqzKIK
Teacher librarians could soon be left on the funding shelf
The library is the heart of the primary school, and it is the teacher librarian who brings it alive.
Yet a slow erosion of this position is under way and a permanent loss of such a fundamental person in our primary schools would have devastating consequences in the lives of our children.
Originally a full-time position, regardless of the size the school, the days worked by teacher librarians are now dictated by the number of students.

In a word, yes. In fact, they may be an administrator's most underutilized resource. Learn how schools are freeing them up to help students, faculty, and principals find the information they need.

Libraries Thriving
http://www.librariesthriving.org/
With low usage and shrinking budgets, libraries are challenged to justify resource investments now more than ever. At the same time, information users are ill prepared to navigate the amount and quality of content on the web. This creates a tremendous opportunity for libraries to show that they are well equipped to help users navigate information resources and for users to benefit from this guidance.
Libraries Thriving is an online collaborative community designed to tackle this opportunity. Librarians, teaching and learning centers, faculty and researchers are sharing ideas and working together on this site to further commons goals of increasing innovative use of e-resources.

Cultural Images of Librarians
http://www.tk421.net/essays/nwyt.pdf
Cultural Images of Librarians
Librarian stereotypes in popular culture support the image of a librarian as a shushing school marm who does little more than stamp and shelve books. Maybe thatís all youíve seen librarians do.
However, this perception is about as inaccurate as believing that Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan is nothing more than a glorified bank teller.

Library Success: A Best Practices Wiki
Welcome to Library Success: A Best Practices Wiki. This wiki was created to be a one-stop shop for great ideas and information for all types of librarians. All over the world, librarians are developing successful programs and doing innovative things with technology that no one outside of their library knows about. There are lots of great blogs out there sharing information about the profession, but there is no one place where all of this information is collected and organized. That's what we're trying to do.

Competing in a Google world
How can the library compete in a world where the reflex reaction to any query that starts with 'who, what, when, where' is 'Google it!'?
What is it that librarians need to do to ensure survival in this world? What can librarians do to define the difference and enrich the experience of information seeking and delivery?

Librarians : Conditions of Service
http://www.bls.gov/ooh/Education-Training-and-Library/Librarians.htm
The traditional concept of a library is being redefined from a place to access paper records or books to one that also houses the most advanced media, including CD-ROM, the Internet, virtual libraries, and remote access to a wide range of resources. Consequently, librarians, or information professionals, increasingly are combining traditional duties with tasks involving quickly changing technology.

CILIP : Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (UK)
'CILIP' is pronounced with a soft 'c', as in 'cyber'.
CILIP is the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals, a new professional body formed following the unification of the Institute of Information Scientists (IIS) and The Library Association (LA)
Vesting Day on 1 April 2002 saw the birth of CILIP, but the new organisation will not be fully grown for some time after this. An action plan has been mapped out for the transitional period to December 2004 during which a number of important elements of the new organisation will be put in place.
There is a brand new monthly magazine called Library and Information Update (replacing Inform from the IIS and the Record from the LA), and the fortnightly Library and Information Appointments jobs supplement will continue. Either the Journal of Information Science or the Journal of Librarianship and Information Science will be available electronically to all Members.
