More than 100 Free Places to Learn Online - and Counting
I’ve been a fan of open education for some time and recently have been intrigued by the revival of the “free” business model debate by Chris Anderson and Kevin Kelly, among others. So, conflating the two, I decided to undertake what turned into a “pulling a thread on a sweater” exercise and see how many free places to learn things I could find on the Web relatively quickly. I’ve included some notes and observations on this exercise below, but first I’ll cut to the chase and offer a brief table of contents for what follows:

ICT introductory training for school support staff
http://www.teachernet.gov.uk/wholeschool/supportstaff/training/introductorytraining/
ICT introductory training for school support staff
A package of introductory training materials for other support staff in schools has now been developed, following the success of the DfES Induction Training for Teaching Assistants. One of the aims of the training is to help support staff take over some or all of the administrative and clerical tasks that teachers should not routinely be required to do, according to the National Workload Agreement signed in January 2003.
The first of five modules concentrates on ICT (Unit 2 within module 1) and aims to raise awareness of the use of ICT in teaching and learning. Reference to ICT sources is made throughout the course.
Other modules cover: behaviour management, inclusion, special educational needs, disability, the curriculum, English as an additional language, child protection, and health and safety.
The training is not designed to replace school-based induction ?it is seen as complementary. It covers a limited but important range of knowledge and skills that experience of induction training for teaching assistants and wide consultation suggest will be helpful for newly appointed school support staff in general.
