Rocks : Virtual Field Trip

Rocks : Virtual Field Trip
When was the last time you picked up a rock to throw it, skip it across water, or simply to admire its color? Rocks are everywhere. Billions of years ago, as volcanoes erupted and moutains burst from the ground, many different kinds of rocks were formed. Rocks contain important clues about the events that shaped the Earth. Geologists study them to look for these clues and to piece together the 4.5 billion years that make up our planet's history.
This virtual tour was written for Mrs. Beesley's second grade class at J.A. Taylor Elementary in Centerville, Utah.

Soils : 4 2 Explore
http://eduscapes.com/42explore/dirt.htm
This web project provides "four to explore" for each topic.
On each page you'll find definitions, activities, 4 good starting points, and many more links and resources for the thematic topic.
In some cases, we've listed more than four websites on a particular topic. For example, we might provide a few for younger readers and others for more advanced learners.
Each school, classroom, and teacher is unique. As such we didn't try to provide specific activities for particular grade levels. Instead we suggest that teachers explore each link, then design specific, developmentally appropriate activities such as discussion questions, small group activities, or webquests to fit the needs of their curriculum.
The links on this site are safe for children.

The Answer Worm

The Answer Worm
It? a dirty job but someone has to do it--S.K.Worm, the official annelid, or worm, of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service answers students questions about soil. Even their teachers can? wiggle their way out of this one! Slither your way through these soiled questions and earn a very special diploma. You might even get hooked on Soil!
soil | worm | Is soil made through magic? |
Does soil have parents? | What does the weather do to soil? | What's on, and in, the horizon? | How does soil help me keep my cool? | Do soils come in different colors? | How does water stay in the soil? | How does air get into the soil? |
Why do plants like soil? | Do roots just help plants? | Does soil care about time? |
Can we keep the soil from washing and blowing away? | What is soil conservation? |
