Virtual Worlds Comparison
http://oz.slinked.net/compare.php
Virtual Worlds Comparison
This page features comparisons in different ways of three different Virtual Worlds. Currently these worlds are Active Worlds, Second Life, and There
This is meant as a non-partisan comparison of these three VWs and their features. It is an attempt to be helpfull to anyone who want's to know more about these different VWs and find which one is best for them. I do encourage you to try each one out however to find for your own self which you prefer. Each VW does offer a free trial of some sort.
I use the term Virtual Worlds although several other terms could be used to describe these types of software. Virtual Realities, Metaverses, 3D Internet, and many other terms are amongst those that could be used.

From the moment you enter the World you?l discover a vast digital continent, teeming with people, entertainment, experiences and opportunity. Once you?e explored a bit, perhaps you?l find a perfect parcel of land to build your house or business.
You?l also be surrounded by the Creations of your fellow residents. Because residents retain the rights to their digital creations, they can buy, sell and trade with other residents.

Whyville
http://www.whyville.net/
Whyville is am educational virtual world for children and teens, ages 10-16.
It is a multi-user science community of 550 thousand registered members, with four thousand concurrent users at any given time.
The site includes noncompetitive games and activities, social interaction and the opportunity for kids to create their own identities. When the kids log in, the face they've designed as their online avatar floats into the 3D Whyville Town Square. They can remain and chat with other users or they can visit popular gathering spots such as the town swimming pool, the "Sportsplatz" or the playground.
The currency of this realm is "clams" and these are earned in two ways: by engaging in one of the Web site's twelve science or four math activities or through profits generated by the sales of one's products.
Once someone has enough clams, he or she can buy a plot of land, build a house, decorate it and have friends over for chat fests. Often the site owners release viruses like Whypox into the air at Whyville and the community members have to research the disease to find out more about its management.
