Mobile Podcasting Leads to Mobcasting
http://www.digitaldivide.net/articles/view.php?ArticleID=110
How to Create Your Own Mobile Podcasts and Mobcasts
An essay about the concept of mobcasting -- using mobile phones and blogging tools as a way for large groups of people to create audio podcasts on the same website. Podcasts are a type of audio blog that are set up so listeners can audiomatically download your audio messages onto an MP3 player like an iPod -- hence the name podcasting.
Below are seven easy steps to creating a mobile podcast or mobcast using free online tools. The first five steps will get you started with your own podcasting site. And if you want to create a mobcast site for a group of people to use, steps six and seven will take care of that for you.

Podcasting
Podcasting is when you have a downloadable audio show that you're interested in listening to on a regular basis because it has something with new material each time. In the past you would have to go to the Web site and locate the new download where youd manually grab the MP3 file and listen to it.
Some netizens believe podcasting will revitalize the art of radio. All you need are rudimentary recording tools, free software, and a speedy Internet connection. Like the bloggers before them, podcasters are changing the nature of the medium.

Podcasting - on Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Podcasting - on Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The term podcasting plays upon the terms broadcasting and webcasting and is derived from the name of the iPod portable music player, the playback device of choice of many early podcast listeners. While not directly associated with Apple's iPod device or iTunes jukebox software, the company did contribute both the desire and the technology for this capability.
In short, podcasting involves the recording of internet radio or similar internet audio programs. These recordings are then made available for download to your iPod or other portable digital audio device. You can listen to the podcast internet radio program while you are away from your computer or at a different time than the original program was broadcast.

And it's not just for iPods! Other devices are supported through Windows Media Player. Any device that can exchange files with WMP will work with iPodder.

Podcast ... an explanation
http://www.csmonitor.com/2004/1210/p12s03-stct.htm
'Podcast' your world : Digital technology for iPod does for radio what blogs did for the Internet.
The idea behind a podcast is simple, yet brilliant. Instead of using portable MP3 players such as the iPod only for listening to music, new software called iPodder allows one to download prerecorded radio shows onto the devices.
"Aspiring writers and journalists have their blogs, aspiring movie directors have their Apple iMovies, and aspiring DJs/radio producers now have podcasting,"
Many observers expect podcasts to become as diverse and niche-oriented as the world of blogs. In theory, listeners will be able to pick and choose from a menu of shows that cater to their interests. They'll also be able to subscribe to downloads that provide news from the stock market or updates on developments in a particular industry. And one will soon be able to access podcasts on a standard-issue cellphone.
There's a term that sums up the future of podcasting: niche radio.
