Podsafe is a term created in the podcasting community to refer to any work which, through its licensing, specifically allows the use of the work in podcasting, regardless of restrictions the same work might have in other realms. For example, a song may be legal to use in podcasts, but may need to be purchased or have royalties paid for over-the-air radio use, television use, and possibly even personal use.

The process of putting together an audio recording is extremely valuable and is certainly a cross-curricular experience.
I've divided up the process into four parts: preproduction, recording, postproduction, and publishing.

Use Handbrake to Rip DVDs for iPod Videos
Apple's new video iPods have turned out to be a huge hit. But if you have bought one, it's likely that you've quickly found that many of the things that you'd like to watch on your iPod aren't available. You may also own DVDs and other digital videos that you'd like to watch on your iPod, but Apple doesn't provide an easy way to do this.
Fortunately, there's a free, open-source application that you can use to convert your media to use on video iPods. The program is Handbrake.

Making a Podcast with Blogger and FeedBurner
Blogger is not our first choice for weblog-based podcasting. Movable Type and Wordpress are better solutions for many podcasters, because they offer better support for podcasting, more power and greater flexibility.
Nevertheless, many podcasters are finding Blogger to be a good starting place to experiment with podcasting. Blogger is a free service, and getting started is as easy as filling out some forms on the web.
Here's a quick guide to building a podcast with Blogger. You should be able to set up a podcast using Blogger and FeedBurner in about the time it takes for all the images on this page to finish loading!

Avidly discussing their favorite iPod colors and models while they made recordings of their poems and book reports the other day, the fifth-graders bubbled with ideas for future subjects.

Podcasting For The People (article)

Podcasting For The People
Quick and easy tools bring podcasting out into the mainstream.
Podcasting is an audio version of RSS feeds, a way of publishing Web content with metadata that lets users subscribe and receive new files as they're posted. Using special software, users can download podcasts and play them back using desktop computer media players or portable MP3 players.

Podcasting in Education
http://www.apple.com/uk/education/podcasting/
Podcasting in Education
Podcasting is a way for people to selectively subscribe to audio content over the Internet. This audio content can then be automatically downloaded to a computer or mobile device, like an iPod. Think of it as a radio show that you can listen to whenever and wherever you want ?only it? much more than that.
Taking Podcasting to School ... Podcasting is also a way for teachers and students to publish and distribute content. Imagine a science instructor posting daily assignments and recorded lectures from class to a Web site that provides an RSS feed. Students can subscribe to the feed from home and have their class assignments and content sync with their iPods, taking them wherever they go.

The Education Podcast Network
http://epnweb.org/
The Education Podcast Network is an effort to bring together into one place, the wide range of podcast programming that may be helpful to teachers looking for content to teach with and about, and to explore issues of teaching and learning in the 21st century.
Most of the producers of these programs are educators, who have found an avenue through which they can share their knowledge, insights, and passions for teaching and learning and for the stories that they relish and teach.

Podcasting: A New Voice on the Net : Article

Podcasting: A New Voice on the Net : Create your own digital audio broadcasts
If you've ever wanted to speak directly to your audience, here's your chance. While blogs give anyone with something to say a means to publish their views on the Web, podcasting gives those with a computer and Internet access a chance to create and post their own radio broadcasts.
Simply put, podcasts are digital audio files (typically MP3s) posted to the Web for anyone to download and listen to. Often called TiVo for radio, podcasts are different than traditional radio because you can time-shift them -- listen to them when you want to. And when paired with a portable player you can listen to them where you want to, as well.
