Why a New ICT Schemes of Work?
We know the current (Oct08) QCA (UK) is a little out of date and doesn't provide us with the cross curricular opportunities we know ICT can bring. So we wanted to develop a broader scheme that embraces new technologies available to us and recognises the increasing ICT skills the children have.
The ICT strands have been sub divided as the diagram shown. An element of each strand is taught progressively across all years.

http://www.standards.dfes.gov.uk/schemes2/secondary_ICT/?view=get
ICT schemes of work for Key Stage 3
This scheme shows how the ICT programme of study for key stage 3 can be translated into manageable units of work.
The scheme is not statutory; you can use as much or as little as you wish. You could use the whole scheme or individual units. The sections on ?sing this scheme?and ?equencing the units?can help you to decide how you want to use the scheme.
The units are aimed at pupils who are attaining at levels that are broadly appropriate for their age. You may therefore need to adapt them to meet your pupils?needs. The ?dapting units?section provides guidance on doing this.

Making Sense of the QCA Scheme of Work for ICT
http://www.edu.dudley.gov.uk/ict/curriculum/NC2000/QCA_Scheme_of_Work.doc
Making Sense of the QCA Scheme of Work for ICT
The National Curriculum for ICT has been re-written and is now organised into four sections plus a common section Breadth of Study. Each section is divided into statements. This document maps each unit of work in the QCA scheme of work, including the revised units, to RM software that can be used in its delivery. This document also links the Programme of Study statements covered in each unit within both the New and Old Curriculum to assist future planning. The ICT National Curriculum headings have been listed here to make the interpretation of pupils?learning easier to manage as they work on the QCA units.

What is an ICT scheme of work?
Delivering the ICT programme of study: useful links and background information In 1998 the DfEE and the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) issued a scheme of work for information technology (IT) at Key Stages 1 and 2 to help schools to deliver the IT programme of study. In 2000, QCA issued a scheme of work for ICT at Key Stage 3 .
These schemes of work are non-statutory and are designed to help with planning. They are intended to help teachers to turn the programme of study into what the National Curriculum handbook calls 'practical and manageable teaching programmes'.
