Evacuees: Children during World War II
This was a series of three lessons completed in the middle of a term's study of the effects of World War II on the lives of children. Previous work had covered key events, dates, information about the main leaders and finding out about the Blitz and air raids, leading to the idea that some children were evacuated from their homes.

Most British people were fairly shocked when in September 1939 Germany invaded Poland. It had only been 21 years since the end of the last war known as 'The War to End all Wars'..........
Preparations were then feverishly made to protect the population from a range of possible threats. Anderson shelters were built, gas masks and ration books issued and a home defence force set up.

What was it like for children in the Second World War?
In this unit children find out about the effects of the Second World War on children in their local area, nationally and internationally. There are also opportunities to consider the effects of war on children today.
Children use a range of sources, including the recollections of people alive at the time. They consider the reasons for and results of key aspects of the war.
