About Engaged Learning (sg)
http://tinyurl.com/2nmdlp
About Engaged Learning in Singapore
Engaged pupils are responsible for their own learning. They can define their own learning goals and evaluate their ongoing achievements. They know how to build knowledge collaboratively and are able to solve real world problems creatively. Above all, they have developed a lifelong passion for learning.
When used with appropriate pedagogies, ICT can help pupils build knowledge as they collaborate with others while completing authentic tasks.
A chart here provides an overview of how the roles of the pupils, teachers and use of ICT come together.

Engaging IT Practices for Teachers in Singapore
The initial publication brought together various ways of integrating ICT into teaching and learning in the context of inter-disciplinary lessons, collaborative learning and process-based learning involving higher order thinking skills. The first issue also introduced the notion of a Community of Practice (CoP) as a platform for pooling of resources and sharing of good practices.
This second online issue, sought to develop the idea of a CoP further by gathering a group of teachers from across Singapore to contribute their ICT-infused lesson ideas.
The main menu is a nicely designed interactive virtual school building.

Intelligent Nation 2015 (iN2015) (sg)
http://www.in2015.sg/
Intelligent Nation 2015 (iN2015) is Singapore’s 10-year masterplan to help realise the potential of infocomm over the next decade. Led by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), iN2015 is a multi-agency effort that is the result of private, public and people sector co-creation.
From the people sector, individuals provided their ideas and views through focus groups and the Express iT! iN2015 Competition. The competition attracted thousands of entries from students and the general public on how they envisioned infocomm would impact the way they live, work, learn and play in 2015. In addition, hundreds of private and public sector representatives participated in numerous discussions to come up with ideas for transforming their sectors through infocomm, and how to translate these ideas into reality.

MoE : Mission and Vision Statement (sg)

Singapore Ministry of Education : Mission and Vision Statement
The mission of the Education Service is to mould the future of the nation, by moulding the people who will determine the future of the nation. The Service will provide our children with a balanced and well-rounded education, develop them to their full potential, and nurture them into good citizens, conscious of their responsibilities to family, society and country.
Ministry of Education's vision of "Thinking Schools, Learning Nation" (TSLN) was first announced by Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong in 1997.
This vision describes a nation of thinking and committed citizens capable of meeting the challenges of the future, and an education system geared to the needs of the 21st century.

What is Teach Less, Learn More? (sg)
http://www.moe.gov.sg/bluesky/print_tllm.htm
Teach Less, Learn More is about teaching better, to engage our learners and prepare them for life, rather than teaching more, for tests and examinations.
Thinking Schools, Learning Nation (TSLN) was adopted as the vision statement for MOE in 1997. It continues to be the over-arching descriptor of the transformation in the education system, comprising changes in all aspects of education. These changes articulate how MOE would strive toward the Desired Outcomes of Education (DOEs).
TLLM builds on the groundwork laid in place by the systemic and structural improvements under TSLN, and the mindset changes encouraged in our schools under I&E. It continues the TSLN journey to improve the quality of interaction between teachers and learners, so that our learners can be more engaged in learning and better achieve the desired outcomes of education.

Engaging ICT Practices for Teachers (sg)

Engaging ICT Practices for Teachers .. pdf file 3.45MB
This publication brought together various ways of integrating ICT into teaching and learning in the context of inter-disciplinary lessons, collaborative learning and process-based learning involving higher order thinking skills. The first issue also introduced the notion of a Community of Practice (CoP) as a platform for pooling of resources and sharing of good practices.
This publication attempts, in addition, to raise awareness on the notion of a Community of Practice (CoP). Many teachers are interested in pooling resources and sharing good practices. They may want to consider some of the ideas found here in order to establish or join a CoP to share useful resources and practices.
The issue of copyright is also discussed as teachers have to grapple with it when designing IT-based lesson materials. By drawing attention to this issue, it is hoped that teachers and their students will continue to explore ways to use intellectual property with responsibility.

Engaging ICT Practices for Teachers ... website and handbook.
Some of you may recall that Ms Tan was the lead character in the lesson ideas featured in the publication “Engaging ICT Practices for Teachers”.
In this second issue, we sought to develop the idea of a CoP further by gathering a group of teachers from across Singapore to contribute their ICT-infused lesson ideas. These lesson ideas have been adapted to highlight engaged learning, which is central to the second ICT in Education Masterplan (mp2). We hope that you will be able to adapt these ideas and incorporate engaged learning practices into your lessons. Nevertheless, the lesson ideas featured in this publication are not exhaustive. We hope to expand these further through an ongoing process of engaging teachers and promoting sharing and collaboration amongst teachers.

In line with the IT Master Plan for Education, there is a need to investigate how IT can be integrated fully into the school curriculum.
It is a PowerPoint based lesson that fulfils one or two specific objectives and encourages higher order thinking/skills, e.g. decision making, hypothesis testing, collaborative work, role play, etc.
Very often, such lessons will launch external files (Word documents, interactive Excel spreadsheets, Java or javascript enhanced HTML files, web pages, etc) to enhance the learning experience.

The underlying philosophy of the Masterplan is that education should continually anticipate the future needs of society, and work towards fulfilling those needs. The skills required for the future will centre on thinking skills, learning skills and communication skills. IT-based teaching and learning will be one of our key strategies for equipping our young with these skills.

Leadership in Singapore Schools: The Impact of National Culture
When we look at school management in Singapore, is there a distinctive characteristic that acts as a cultural imperative which shapes the working patterns and lives of school principals? As part of an international comparative study of the principalship, we sought to gain insights into the typical thinking and behaviours of four school principals. Using a cultural analysis model to examine power relationships, relationships with colleagues, gender issues and tolerance of ambiguity and uncertainty, we concluded that these leaders' lives were far from routine and were characterized by paradox.
