Welcome to the School Librarians Network (SLN) mailing list - I hope that
you will find it a useful and immediate way of exchanging views, news and
information on all topics of interest to us as school librarians/media
resources officers/learning resources staff.

School Librarians Network is a forum where UK school librarians (and MROs
and support staff) can exchange news, views and ideas and give each other
mutual support on such issues as GNVQ support; budget preparation; IT
support generally; literacy; opening hours; staffing; book selection;
information skills, etc..

While intended primarily for the UK, collegues from elsewhere are of
course more than welcome.

It would be useful if you could introduce yourself and describe your
particular library/school situation, but you are welcome to ^Ñlisten in^Ò for
a while before taking the plunge.

This list is at present open to all and unmoderated but only list members
can post directly to the list, receive postings and access the archive.

In order to make it clearer what is "take a look at this" material rather
than comment please use the prefix 'Arc:' in the subject line of these
messages. So for example a newspaper article that you thought would be

interesting to the list entitled 'School libraries praised by inspectorate'
would appear in the subject line as:   Arc: School libraries praised by
inspectorate.

*Options for receiving and reading the list*
There are four different options available for this list:
1. Receive individual e-mails.
 
If you select this option you will receive each individual message as
soon as it is posted to the list.

2. Read it on the web.
 You will have to log-on regularly to <http://www.egroups.com to read the
items that have been posted using your browser.

3. Receive daily summaries.
 If there have been any postings you will receive details of the title and
author listed in a summary and you will have to log-on to
<http://www.egroups.com in order to read them if they are of interest to

you.

4. Receive full-text digests.
 With this option you get the full text of the messages posted to the list
that day but as one digest posting instead of individual messages.

You select these options in the main window after you log-in to:
<http://www.egroups.com. If you have not logged-on before you will need to
register before setting your options. To do this go to
<http://www.egroups.com and click on *New User Account*. You will be
asked to enter your email address. As soon as you have entered your address a
validation number will have been sent to you by egroups. Look in the inbox
of your email program for this message and make a note of the validation
number (Mac users can just highlight this and copy (command C) or drag on
to the desktop to create a text clipping). In the new page that will have
opened in your browser type or paste in your validation number, your name
and your preferred password.

You can now log-in using your email address and password and in the bottom
left of the main window that now opens you will see three buttons and one
selection box. Click in the box next to sln to select it then select the
option you require for receiving and reading the list in the selection box.
Then click the Set Mode button. That^Òs all there is to it!

An archive of the messages posted to the list is available at:
